Timothee Chalamet, after cheering for the New York Knicks during a lengthy playoff run, is returning to work. He will join forces with Selena Gomez in the animated film Not Alone, set for release in 2027. This Universal Studios movie, produced by Illumination, was recently announced at the Annecy Film Festival in France.
Chalamet will voice Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic living a solitary life. Gomez will portray Fran, an astro-botanist working on a plant-fueled rocket. According to the film’s synopsis, Joe and Fran are brought together for the rocket’s inaugural launch. While sparks fly between them, their lack of romantic skills complicates things further.
The plot thickens when three aliens—Dunk, Welly, and Shirm—take refuge in Joe’s home. These adorable yet unruly extraterrestrials are fleeing from Zandro, an inept interplanetary law officer. The aliens see Fran’s rocket as their only escape back home.
Eric Guillon, co-director of Despicable Me 3, will direct the film. The announcement was met with surprise and excitement from fans. One fan remarked on the unexpected pairing, calling it “insane,” while another found the plot “chaotic and cute.”
However, some fans recall a rumored incident from the 2024 Golden Globes that adds a layer of intrigue. Gomez allegedly wanted a picture with Chalamet, but Kylie Jenner reportedly objected, according to Internet discussions. Despite this, Chalamet confirmed in a later interview that there was no tension between them, stating, “Yeah, of course,” when asked if he was on good terms with Gomez. He also denied any conflict between his girlfriend and Gomez.
Whether or not Gomez wanted a photo with Chalamet remains uncertain. Nonetheless, the film announcement promises plenty of shared screen time for the duo.
