A stabbing occurred on Tuesday morning in downtown Nantucket, Massachusetts, near the ferry docks that attract summer visitors. At 10:23 a.m., Nantucket police responded to a reported stabbing on South Beach Street between Broad Street and Oak Street, a bustling commercial area near the Steamship Authority ferry terminal.
The injured person received treatment at the scene before the Nantucket Fire Department transported them to Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
Witnesses reported to the Nantucket Current that the incident followed a verbal and physical altercation between the drivers of a Myles Reis garbage truck and a Sayles Seafood delivery truck.
The injured individual fled toward “The Strip,” where employees from Stubby’s and nearby businesses attempted to assist by using napkins to control the bleeding before first responders arrived.
A person connected to the incident was detained on the scene. Authorities have scheduled an arraignment in Nantucket District Court for the following day, though no further details have been released, including the identity of the suspect.
The Massachusetts State Police did not provide additional information and directed inquiries to the Nantucket Police Department, as the investigation remains active.
