4 weeks ago 0

Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs was an incredible event last Monday. The Spurs secured a double overtime victory with Victor Wembanyama scoring 41 points and grabbing 24 rebounds.

The reigning champions, the Thunder, demonstrated their power in the following games. They won Game 2 by nine points and Game 3 by fifteen. Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander strengthened his status as the back-to-back NBA MVP.

Game Dynamics

The Thunder entered Frost Bank Center on Sunday, aiming to lead 3-1 in the series. Wembanyama disrupted this ambition.

Wembanyama, known as Wemby, scored 22 points in the first half. He highlighted this with a 42-foot 3-pointer as the halftime buzzer sounded, giving the Spurs a 50-38 lead at halftime.

Remarkably, his 3-pointer was executed with typical shooting form, showcasing his skill.

Wembanyama’s Journey

This is Wembanyama’s first playoff journey after being the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He has guided the Spurs to their first Western Conference Finals appearance since 2017.

Previously, Wembanyama earned the NBA Defensive Player of the Year accolade. He is the first to win it unanimously. Despite this, he aimed for the MVP title and took Gilgeous-Alexander’s victory personally.

Wembanyama made a statement with his Game 1 performance, achieving 41 points and 24 rebounds. He is determined to thwart the Thunder’s pursuit of becoming repeat champions, a feat last achieved by the Golden State Warriors in 2017-2018.

Finals Outlook

The Western Conference Finals victor is likely to face the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.

The Knicks are leading 3-0 against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals and have secured 10 consecutive playoff wins.
