Senator Jon Ossoff has seen a significant rise in prediction markets for the 2028 Democratic presidential primary. His standing has surpassed that of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as speculation about new candidates continues. The field may shape up in the coming months, with potential candidates declaring their runs after the upcoming midterm elections.

While the first votes in the primary are over a year away, polls and prediction markets offer early indicators of candidate momentum. Ossoff’s Rising Status in Prediction Markets

Despite downplaying presidential run rumors, Ossoff’s chances increased in prediction markets recently. His odds climbed to 16%, overtaking Ocasio-Cortez’s 14% on Polymarket, with only California Governor Gavin Newsom having a higher probability at 20%. Earlier this year, Ossoff held a lower 4% chance, which grew over time.

In addition to Polymarket, Ossoff’s odds improved on Kalshi, reaching 16%, while Newsom and Ocasio-Cortez stood at 18% and 15% respectively. Former Vice President Kamala Harris, and others like Pete Buttigieg and Josh Shapiro, had lesser odds of winning the nomination.

Polling Insights on Democrats’ 2028 Chances

An Emerson College poll identified Buttigieg as a frontrunner with 19% voter preference, closely followed by Newsom at 17%. Both Ossoff and Ocasio-Cortez garnered 13% support. Harris and others received varying levels of backing in this poll, which surveyed 574 Democrats with a 4% margin of error.

A separate McLaughlin poll showed Harris leading with 28%, followed by Newsom and Ocasio-Cortez. Notably, Ossoff was absent from this survey that involved 1,000 general election voters.

Ossoff’s Reelection Campaign in Georgia

Ossoff is focusing on his reelection effort in Georgia rather than a 2028 presidential bid. He recently told CNN, “I am not running for president in 2028; I have no interest in running for president in 2028.” The Cook Political Report currently rates his Senate race in the state as Lean Democrat.

Georgia remains a key battleground, with Ossoff facing Republican Representative Mike Collins. Analysts view it as an opportunity for Ossoff to strengthen his position within the Democratic party amid factional divisions. Recent polls suggest Ossoff leads the race, gaining 52% support against Collins’ 43%.

Thoughts from Potential 2028 Candidates

Some Democratic figures have not dismissed the possibility of running in 2028. Harris has hinted at a potential run during a conversation at the National Action Network’s annual convention, pointing to her extensive experience as Vice President. Newsom, in an interview, expressed a similar openness without committing.

Ocasio-Cortez, in a chat with David Axelrod, conveyed a focus on long-term transformative efforts rather than immediate political positions. She emphasized her commitment to enduring changes over chasing political titles.
