Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District Primary

The Republican primary for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District concluded with incumbent representative Brad Finstad emerging victorious. Finstad faced off against Gregory Goetzman and Oliver Morlan. Goetzman had previously challenged Finstad in 2024, but only secured 4.26% of the vote compared to Finstad’s overwhelming 90.9% support.

Morlan, associated with his family’s industrial cleaning business, participated in the primary as a political outsider. Following his primary win, Finstad will compete in the November general election against either Alex Eaton, a math teacher with a background in union leadership, or Jake Johnson, a small business owner. Eaton is regarded as part of the establishment, while Johnson is considered more progressive.

Minnesota’s Political Landscape

Of the eight U.S. House seats in Minnesota, the 1st District is one of the four held by Republicans.
