Rahm Emanuel, the former mayor of Chicago and ex-White House chief of staff, is exploring a 2028 presidential run. He visited Israel this week with a message that could influence one of the most contentious issues in U.S. politics.
In a forthcoming speech in Tel Aviv, Emanuel argues for ending unconditional U.S. support for Israel. He insists that Israel must make significant changes to maintain strong U.S. backing. Emanuel emphasizes the need for Israel to consider Palestinian sovereignty and abandon plans for annexing the entire West Bank.
He criticizes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach, stating that the current government has led Israel into a ‘dead end.’ He claims Netanyahu views every security issue as a nail that needs a military hammer.
“It should be obvious that strategic isolation is not a foundation for security,” Emanuel states. “It’s a countdown clock.”
Emanuel aims to navigate a path between the anti-Israel left and the pro-Israel right, as Israel’s support in the United States declines, particularly within the Democratic Party.
