Prince Harry and his family plan to return to the United Kingdom, leaving behind Southern California. They have been living in Montecito, a coastal area in Santa Barbara County. A source confirmed that King Charles was informed of the decision recently. During their visit in July, this move was not discussed. King Charles is pleased with the chance to see the family more often in a private setting, but they will remain private individuals outside working royal duties.
The couple, Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, along with their children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, moved to California after stepping back from royal roles in 2020. Media outlets The Telegraph and The Sun broke news of the move, indicating the children are set to attend school in the UK in September. This suggests the family will move soon. Despite relocating, Harry and Meghan will not resume royal responsibilities, choosing privacy over royal residency.
Security arrangements for the family remain unclear. Previously, security has been a contentious issue. A UK Home Office official stated that they will not disclose details about these arrangements, as it may compromise security.
In the UK, Meghan will continue her work on her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Their spokesperson did not deny plans of moving back. The return to the UK follows Harry’s challenging visit in July, when he faced issues regarding hospitality and security. His last UK visit with the family was for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
A family reunion may be challenging due to Harry’s strained relations with King Charles and Prince William. Harry has been vocal about family tensions, airing them in his memoir “Spare.” He also expressed the intent to reconcile with King Charles, mentioning the monarch’s health concerns.
India McTaggart, a royal correspondent, noted Harry’s long-standing wish to return to the UK. He intends to reconnect his children with the royal family and prefers a more private UK presence. Although relations with Prince William remain strained, Harry has maintained open communication with King Charles.
Returning to the UK may simplify Harry’s charity work, with organizations like Invictus and WellChild based there. Being surrounded by friends might offer a sense of home. McTaggart suggested Meghan supports the move despite potential challenges.
