Oregon Ducks Recover With Big Win but Face Challenges

8 minutes ago 0

After a difficult defeat at Oklahoma State, Oregon bounced back in a significant way by thrashing Portland State 84-0 last weekend. Quarterback Dante Moore showcased his skill with an impressive performance, completing 19 of 23 passes for 280 yards and delivering four touchdowns. He maintained a clean game with no interceptions. Backup Dylan Raiola also impressed with a perfect 11 of 11 passes, covering 124 yards and achieving three touchdowns, adding to the Ducks’ 453 total yards of offense.

However, the victory comes with setbacks. Oregon’s head coach Dan Lanning announced that wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan suffered a broken foot, sidelining him indefinitely. This injury reportedly occurred during pregame warmups before facing Portland State, where McClellan was seen in street clothes and a walking boot on his right foot before the game began.

Jeremiah McClellan, a promising four-star recruit from St. Louis, Missouri, chose the Ducks over more than 40 top college programs in December 2023. Although he had limited exposure as a freshman in 2024, last season saw him develop into one of Moore’s primary targets. He ranked third among the team with 557 receiving yards and 38 receptions, trailing only behind Malik Benson and Kenyon Sadiq, both now in the NFL.

McClellan was anticipated to become even more pivotal this season with Benson and Sadiq gone. Instead, he has been forced to aim for a return in 2027 as his junior year performance is on hold. In the season’s first three games, McClellan managed seven catches for 170 yards and a touchdown, averaging a notable 24.3 yards per catch.

This development couldn’t have come at a more critical time for the Ducks. They prepare to face Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans on Saturday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a high-stakes Big Ten showdown. Both teams are fighting for a College Football Playoff position, and Oregon will need to succeed without one of Moore’s top receivers.
