NFL’s Role in Addressing Social Issues: A Critique and Proposal

The NFL plans to continue using social justice messages like “End Racism” and “Stop Hate” in their end zones during the 2026 season. A Congressional Research Service report indicates that 64% of African-American children lived apart from their fathers in 2012. The absence of fathers is associated with numerous problems, including higher chances of incarceration and lower educational outcomes.

Brewer proposes that the NFL could advocate to “End Fatherlessness” to have a positive societal impact.

Addressing Other Critical Issues

Another topic Brewer raises is the controversial issue of abortion, noting its disproportionate effect on the black community. Statistics show that black women account for a significant percentage of reported abortions.
