The New York Knicks are making their first appearance in the NBA Finals since 1999. The team aims to win their first championship since 1973. With an 11-game playoff winning streak, fans are optimistic about the team’s chances of claiming the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
The Knicks will face the San Antonio Spurs, a young and less-experienced team. The Spurs reached the Finals after a tough seven-game series against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. This scenario may give the veteran Knicks squad an edge. Many believe the Knicks are the stronger team based on their recent playoff success.
Despite the excitement, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green has cautioned against premature celebrations. On “The Draymond Green Show,” Green criticized the Knicks, suggesting they haven’t achieved much by reaching the Finals. He challenged fans, saying, “Prove me wrong,” while expressing skepticism about the significance of the Knicks’ Eastern Conference journey.
“Getting out of the East has never been a surefire way to winning a championship,” Green remarked.
Green also conveyed his support for Mike Brown, adding, “Happy for Mike Brown by the way.”
During the playoffs, the Knicks overcame the Atlanta Hawks 4-2 in their first series. They then swept both the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cleveland Cavaliers in convincing fashion. Critics argue, however, that the Knicks didn’t face the top contenders. The Hawks were not seen as a major threat, and the Knicks avoided playing the No. 2 seed Boston Celtics because of Jayson Tatum’s absence in a crucial game.
Regardless, the Knicks have gained momentum and confidence as they prepare to battle the Spurs. While the Spurs are young, their endurance was demonstrated in the seven-game series against OKC.
The NBA Finals matchup between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs is set to begin at 8:40 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 3.
