A New Jersey man, Michael A. Kless, faces first-degree murder charges after allegedly admitting to killing his wife, Stacy E. Kless, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago. The incident unfolded on May 27 when Ocean Township police were informed via a call at 9:32 a.m. that Kless had confessed to a family member about the killing and mentioned intentions to commit suicide.

The affidavit reveals further claims, including a second call received 14 minutes later, indicating that Kless had emailed another admission, this time asserting he had murdered his wife. The email reportedly detailed a longstanding animosity toward Stacy Kless, mentioned Kless’s involvement with a new romantic partner from Central America, and contained facts about the murder aligning with evidence discovered at the scene.

Workers who arrived at the residence for scheduled repairs around 9:05 a.m. encountered Kless, who had visible scratches and blood on his face. He declined entry and requested to postpone the appointment.

Police officers, responding to the scene, forced entry into the home on Seward Drive to ensure the safety of those inside. They found Stacy Kless deceased in the basement, with a barbell placed across her neck and throat. She was pronounced dead later that morning.

Kless is charged with additional offenses, including third-degree possession and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. Authorities have identified the weapon involved in the incident as a barbell. Documentation indicates that the case is considered a domestic violence situation, with allegations of attempted or successful strangulation during the attack.

Following the murder, Kless allegedly fled the scene. Investigators utilized tracking devices to monitor his vehicle as it traveled north along the Garden State Parkway. Reports allege that he contacted another individual, admitting to an attempted overdose at a rest stop.

The couple’s two adult children shared messages with investigators that reportedly contained further admissions from Kless concerning his wife’s death. Various electronic devices, including mobile phones, were seized during the investigation.

Kless remains hospitalized and is held at the Monmouth County Jail. As per legal protocols, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
