The NBA season is approaching quickly. Preseason games have given a glimpse of the action to come. Covering every offseason event for each team is challenging. With basketball hailed as a personal favorite, the unpredictable nature of the NBA stands out. It has been nine seasons since the same team claimed the Championship consecutively. Eight different winners over eight years illustrate the league’s competitiveness.
MVP Race
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander secured the MVP title for the last two seasons. Larry Bird was the last to win three consecutive MVPs, from 1983 to 1986. Betting lines should dismiss him this year. Victor Wembanyama has potential but stands at +210. Nikola Jokic, consistently a contender, has missed the MVP despite averaging a triple-double. At +500, he’s worth considering.
Anthony Edwards and Cade Cunningham are intriguing long shots for MVP. Edwards, leading a playoff-bound team without resting games, ranks at +1800. If the Timberwolves finish in the top three in the West, his presence might win him the MVP. Cunningham, pivotal to the Pistons’ rise in the East last season, could gain acknowledgment if he elevates his game.
Rookie of the Year
The recent NBA Draft followed expectations. AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cam Boozer, and Caleb Wilson were top picks. Among them, Peterson and Wilson might emerge as key players. Peterson, positioned as the Jazz’s scoring leader, holds promise at +340. Caleb Wilson’s prominent role might not suffice due to shooting inconsistencies.
Considering Darius Acuff Jr. and Keaton Wagler is wise. Acuff offers offensive skills but trails defensively. Wagler, at +3500, could thrive on a Clippers team seeking leadership. Opting for Peterson seems the safest choice.
6th Man of the Year
DeMar DeRozan, with odds of +1800, presents an appealing choice. Contributing effectively off Denver’s bench, DeRozan excels in isolation and the midrange. He could seize crucial moments and even game-winners.
There are additional awards, such as Most Improved Player and Defensive Player of the Year. The latter may not warrant betting, even considering Victor Wembanyama.
