NATO fighter jets intercepted and destroyed a drone that breached Lithuania’s airspace on Tuesday morning. The incident was confirmed by the Lithuanian president.
The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) reportedly entered Lithuania from Belarus, a key ally of Russia. It flew over the area of Lentvaris, close to Vilnius, the capital, before NATO jets took it down near Kaunas.

Lithuanian authorities highlighted the significance of maintaining aerial vigilance, particularly as tensions in the region escalate.
The incident follows concerns among NATO’s eastern flank nations over the potential spillover of the Ukraine conflict into their territories. These fears have been underscored by previous intrusions, such as last week’s suspected Russian Shahed-type drone in Romanian airspace.
