1 week ago 0

America 250 spokesperson Rosie Rios has disclosed the items selected for a historic time capsule, set to be buried on Independence Mall in Philadelphia on July 4, 2026. This move aims to preserve America’s story for future generations.

The time capsule, weighing 900 pounds and made of stainless steel, is waterproof and contains almost 200 items. These contributions come from various parts of the nation to mark the 250th birthday of the country. The unveiling took place on the show Fox & Friends, offering a glimpse into the contents of this significant project.

Rios stated, “The contents of the time capsule are amazing.” The aim was to ensure that all three government branches were represented, as well as all parts of the country, including the 50 states, D.C., and five territories. Everyday Americans also contributed to the collection.

The time capsule, capped with a lid weighing 1,100 pounds, will rest in Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park. It protects artifacts designed to capture America at this milestone anniversary. Rios emphasized the choice of Philadelphia as the birthplace of the country, noting it as an ideal location for the capsule’s eventual unearthing in 2276.

The time capsule includes objects reflecting the nation’s history, culture, and identity. These items feature a pocket Constitution signed by Supreme Court justices and a crystal from the 2026 New Year’s Eve ball in Times Square. Other items include a message in a bottle from Coca-Cola, a flag flown at the 2026 Rose Parade, and an NFL America250 commemorative coin.

Some parts of the capsule will be displayed in Philadelphia. This serves as a reminder of the waiting history for future generations. “We can hope that our great-great-great-great-grandchildren will be able to enjoy this,” Rios remarked.
