Multiple Shootings in Chicago’s West Garfield Park Injure Several Teens

In the early hours of Sunday, Chicago police reported two consecutive shootings on the same block in West Garfield Park, resulting in injuries to seven individuals, most of whom were teenagers. The incidents occurred despite increased security measures in this area.

The first shooting took place at approximately 1:25 a.m. in the 3800 block of W. Maypole Ave., where a 17-year-old girl was shot in the chest. She was promptly transported to Stroger Hospital and is currently in critical condition.

Only ten minutes after this incident, another shooting occurred on the same block. According to police, a group predominantly consisting of teenagers was standing outside when gunfire erupted at approximately 1:34 a.m., injuring six people. The victims include two 17-year-old boys, an 18-year-old woman, an 18-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, and a 20-year-old man. All of them are reported to be in good condition at Stroger and Mt. Sinai hospitals.

Police revealed that starting at 1:48 a.m., yet another incident unfolded approximately a mile away in the 4300 block of W. Van Buren St. A 33-year-old man was discovered with gunshot wounds. He too was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, but he was later pronounced dead.

These violent occurrences have prompted Area Four Detectives to begin their investigation into the cases. Their focus is on determining the cause of the shootings and identifying any possible connections between them. The police department aims to prevent future incidents in the community.
