Democratic Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan and Republican Michele Tafoya are competing for a seat in the U.S. Senate. Meanwhile, Senator Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat, and State House Speaker Lisa Demuth, a Republican, are contenders for the governor’s position in Minnesota.

On Tuesday, voters in Minnesota made history by choosing female nominees from both major parties for the gubernatorial and senatorial races. According to Rutgers University’s Center for American Women and Politics, this marks the first instance where a state ballot for these significant offices includes only women from the major parties.
