Many federal student loan borrowers will soon be confronted with increased repayment costs. This change will occur if they do not transition out of a lower-cost repayment plan that the Trump administration sought to eliminate.
The Education Department plans to transition these borrowers into the most expensive repayment plan for student loans if they do not exit the Saving on a Valuable Education plan. This program, known as SAVE, was a Biden-era initiative that has since been discontinued.
For those caught in the current repayment glitch, prompt action is crucial to avoid higher payments in the future. The Education Department urges borrowers to evaluate their current plans and make necessary adjustments in the coming months.
