Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp: Receivers Return to Action Ahead of Preseason Opener

1 hour ago 0

Kansas City Chiefs training camp has been bustling with activity, particularly around their wide receivers. Xavier Worthy had been sidelined last week due to a right shoulder sprain. Meanwhile, Rashee Rice, recovering from offseason knee surgery, has seen his workload increase steadily.

Notably, rookie Cyrus Allen, a fifth-round pick, has caught attention as a standout performer. Reports indicate he has developed a strong connection with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Tyquan Thornton has also been actively involved with the first-team offense, showcasing his skills.

However, due to injuries, the quartet of Worthy, Rice, Thornton, and Allen had not practiced together until recently. Monday marked the first time this camp that all four receivers participated in on-field activities on the same day. While Worthy refrained from full 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills, expectations are he will be cleared for full participation soon.

With the Chiefs’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams set for Saturday, Aug. 15, this development is a significant step as the team prepares for the regular season.

Patrick Mahomes has been practicing fully after ACL and LCL surgeries. Observers have praised his condition, noting he resembles his pre-injury form. If Mahomes competes in the preseason opener with all his receivers healthy, prospects for the team appear strong. Additionally, veteran Travis Kelce remains a top-tier tight end. The offensive line is also expected to make progress, paving the way for success.

The upcoming practices will be pivotal. If Worthy resumes full participation, Mahomes might face the Rams with his complete receiving squad.
