Military Operation Launched at U.S.-Mexico Border Amid Cartel Violence Reports

27 minutes ago 0

On Friday, a new military operation on the U.S.-Mexico border was confirmed, with hundreds of troops dispatched to the Rio Grande in response to ongoing reports of cartel violence. The U.S. Northern Command announced this development as part of Operation Unified Response, which aims to bolster the forces and federal agents operating in the Rio Grande Valley.

A spokesperson for the Command stated that the operation’s goal is to strengthen border security operations, enhance the joint force’s response capabilities to threats, and support federal law enforcement partners along the Rio Grande.

“Operation Unified Response will increase patrol capacity, reinforce key areas, provide additional monitoring and detection capabilities, and secure critical locations in support of the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection,” the spokesperson detailed.

The deployment of additional U.S. troops follows a reported shooting incident involving the U.S. Coast Guard near Garceno, Texas, last Saturday, as reported by NewsNation. Fortunately, no injuries were recorded. For further details, Newsweek has reached out to the Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Texas Military Department.

Operation Unified Response: An Update

According to a Northern Command representative, the troops were deployed on Friday as part of the ongoing Operation Ardent Vanguard. This larger operation sees Joint Task Force – Southern Border providing military assistance to protect U.S. sovereignty at the Southern Border.

NewsNation highlighted that the decision for this increased military presence stemmed in part from the mentioned shooting incident, where Coast Guard personnel faced gunfire at the border. It remains unclear if Mexican authorities are participating in this latest operation.

This situation is fluid, and further updates are expected as information becomes available.
