The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is considering adjustments to its fare structure for both rail and bus services in the D.C. region. As of now, rail fares vary from $2.25 to $6.75 based on trip distance. For bus services, the typical cost is $2.25, although express bus routes have a higher price.
Alongside these proposed fare increases, there is also a plan to introduce free rides for youths across the area. If these changes gain approval, they are expected to be implemented by July.
