Jio Platforms Plans Major IPO Under Mukesh Ambani’s Leadership

2 weeks ago 0

Jio Platforms, a significant part of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries, has submitted the draft prospectus for its highly awaited initial public offering (IPO). Jio Platforms, recognized as India’s largest mobile carrier by revenue, is set to demonstrate India’s capability in building globally scalable technology companies.

During a shareholders meeting, Ambani expressed confidence in Jio’s future prospects, stating, “I assure you, and all prospective new investors, that a brighter future awaits Jio.” He announced that his children, Akash, Isha, and Anant, would be leading the IPO process.

The IPO is expected to achieve significant fundraising, potentially surpassing $3.8 billion, making it India’s largest-ever debut share sale. This targets the record set by Hyundai India’s $3.3 billion IPO in 2024. Reliance Industries disclosed that Jio Platforms would release 270 million new shares, although pricing details remain undisclosed. A substantial part of the proceeds, around 275 billion rupees ($2.9 billion), will be allocated to debt repayment.

As per the prospectus, Jio Platforms reported a 14.6% increase in revenue for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, reaching 1.46 trillion rupees. Net profit saw a rise of 15% to 300 billion rupees.

The company reached a milestone in 2020 by selling 33% of its shares, raising over $20.5 billion from 13 global investors, including Facebook’s Meta Platforms, Alphabet, and KKR. This valued Jio Platforms at between $57 billion and $65 billion.

Jio Platforms is crucial to Reliance’s plans to invest $110 billion in data centers, renewable energy, and infrastructure facilities across India over the next seven years. A new AI-driven data center in Gujarat is part of these developments, reflecting Reliance’s cooperation with Meta Platforms.

Mukesh Ambani’s wealth, estimated at $90.5 billion, solidifies his position among India’s richest. As the leader of Reliance Industries, he oversees diverse sectors such as energy, petrochemicals, telecommunications, retail, media, and financial services.
