Beverly Hills Resident Charged with Murder After Alleyway Confrontation

A 19-year-old resident of Beverly Hills faces murder charges following a fatal alleyway encounter on Sunday night, which has left the community in turmoil. Conoray Lawantara was arrested and charged with one count of murder, the L.A. County district attorney’s office confirmed.

The violent incident occurred shortly before midnight. Beverly Hills Police responded to reports of a disturbance in the alleyway on the 400 block of North Palm Drive, east of the city’s Golden Triangle. Upon arrival, they discovered a man with severe neck wounds. He was transported to a local hospital but did not survive his injuries. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.

Witness Brigette Barbie reported hearing moaning outside her apartment, leading her to find a bleeding man she believed to be homeless. In a video she recorded, Lawantara can be seen with blood on his hands, handcuffed, claiming self-defense. Lawantara is heard stating, “I didn’t reach for him first, he reached for me, his hand went to my leg.” He mentions using a concealed carry weapon, a knife, to defend himself.

Lawantara explained in the video that despite brandishing the knife, the other man continued his attack. He also reported being injured with a stab wound and a bitten finger, requiring hospital treatment.

Barbie suggested that Lawantara, a new resident in the area, had become upset with the man who was scavenging through trash. She described the violence as extremely brutal, asserting, “That’s not a reason to murder somebody.” The incident has shocked the neighborhood, with residents demanding more information about Lawantara, questioning his motives.

The district attorney’s office stated that Lawantara has not yet been arraigned, and he remains hospitalized as of Monday. The Beverly Hills Police have not commented further on the situation, nor have they confirmed the victim’s status or provided additional details about the altercation.
