Three news outlets are filing a lawsuit to regain their access to the White House following a recent ban. President Donald Trump restricted CNN, Politico, and MS NOW, prompting the lawsuit based on First Amendment rights.
The companies released a joint statement on Monday. They said, “This morning, we notified the government that we are filing a lawsuit today to protect our First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes.” They argued that the White House revoked their journalists’ credentials without notice. The statement emphasized their concern that this action could undermine press freedom and the public’s access to independent journalism.
Trump shared his rationale in a Truth Social post on Friday. He stated that the outlets were barred due to “constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!” He criticized media outlets for spreading falsehoods about his administration.
On Saturday morning, the correspondents from the affected outlets experienced the consequences firsthand. MS NOW White House correspondent Akayla Gardner reported that her entry badge was confiscated, preventing her access.
Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America,Trump declared. He also hinted that more outlets could face similar restrictions.
