Mass Shooting at Virginia State University Leaves Five Injured

On August 15, 2026, a mass shooting occurred at Virginia State University, resulting in multiple injuries and a temporary campus lockdown.

Law enforcement responded around 1:30 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 3300 block of Boisseau Street. Police arrived to find five individuals with gunshot wounds near the university dorms.

According to university officials, the five injured were transported to local hospitals. Among them, one person is critically injured, while the other four sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities indicated that the incident involved multiple suspects. Although the lockdown has been lifted, a significant police presence continues on campus as investigations proceed.
