A report by Maine Wire editor-in-chief Steve Robinson revealed that Jackson has two sons with Lana Pelletier, who is his second cousin. The relationship, though not illegal or uncommon in rural northern Maine where Jackson resides, has sparked criticism and debate on social media.

Several figures, including Rep. Nancy Mace and former White House press secretary Sean Spicer, voiced their opinions online. Some comments suggested incredulity and disapproval of the Democratic Party’s choice of a candidate.

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner, who recently won the Maine Democratic U.S. Senate primary, stepped down after facing allegations of non-consensual behavior, which he denied.

Troy Jackson, a former state senator and a candidate for governor earlier this year, was selected as the U.S. Senate nominee during the Maine Democratic Party’s convention. In response to the personal attacks, Jackson’s campaign highlighted criticism against Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, arguing that she sides with former President Trump 96% of the time.

The upcoming election on November 3 will see Jackson face off against incumbent Sen. Collins as Republicans look to maintain their 53-47 advantage in the Senate.
