A Little League organization in Las Vegas is embroiled in a controversy over the suspected misuse of funds. Steve Rodriguez Prado, the former board president, faces accusations of spending league money on personal expenses including strip clubs and erectile dysfunction medications.
According to reports from Las Vegas Justice Court Records, Prado was detained on July 2. Charges against him include one count of theft, two counts of forgery, and failing to register with local law enforcement within 48 hours. Allegations suggest he spent nearly $65,000 at casinos on the Vegas Strip, air travel, strip clubs, and ride-share services, among other expenses.
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department further claims Prado made over 75 Zelle transfers to a business owned by his wife, amounting to almost $64,000. Detectives found a $1,351 strip club receipt with a $433 tip, $294 on erectile dysfunction medication, and close to $2,000 on casino outings.
Robert Fleming, Nevada Little League’s District 2 Administrator, commented on the incident, expressing his shock and disappointment. “We were just devastated by the news that the league had had this money embezzled,” Fleming said to 8 News Now.
Though the league nearly had to halt the rest of its season, it was rescued by the donations from several organizations, including the Athletics, allowing them to continue operations.
