1 month ago 0

The Los Angeles Police Department, along with several other agencies, responded early Saturday to an illegal street takeover in the Harbor Gateway area near Gardena. The incident occurred around South Figueroa Street and West Alondra Boulevard.

Police reported that approximately 160 vehicles were towed, multiple arrests were made, and six guns were found. Councilmember Tim McOsker, representing the district that includes Harbor Gateway, noted that cars were impounded, and many drivers were detained. Attendees who were not detained received citations. Children present at the event were taken to a nearby police station for their parents to pick up.

Around 3 a.m., officers surrounded the intersection, effectively blocking any attempts by participants to escape. McOsker highlighted that this area frequently experiences street takeovers, particularly during the summer. Given the first night of Labor Day weekend, the LAPD was prepared for potential incidents.

Footage from OnScene.TV captured agents from Homeland Security Investigations, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement branch, at the scene. McOsker stated that he was unsure of the agency’s role, emphasizing that this was a local police effort to address street takeovers.
