Lane Kiffin will make his head coaching debut with the LSU Tigers on Saturday. They will face the visiting Clemson Tigers in Baton Rouge.
Kiffin’s departure from the Ole Miss Rebels stirred discussions last season. He left just before their College Football Playoff run to assume the head coaching role at LSU.
Fans eagerly anticipate whether Kiffin and his No. 11 ranked team will meet expectations.
According to ESPN’s Marty Smith, the LSU-Clemson game on Saturday has attracted unprecedented attention. It is the most media and celebrity-credentialed game in LSU’s history.
LSU Football officials confirm to ESPN that Saturday’s season-opening home game against Clemson is the most media/celebrity-credentialed game in Tiger Stadium history,” Smith reported on Wednesday morning. “Lane Kiffin’s debut gonna be a wild scene in Death Valley. (2026 marks LSU’s 102nd season in Tiger Stadium).
Besides the media buzz, some tension escalated after Clemson’s head coach, Dabo Swinney, criticized LSU. During a press conference, Swinney expressed his views on LSU’s recruitment strategies.
“It’s kind of embarrassing,” Swinney said about LSU pursuing NFL players, according to On3 Sports. “Honestly, it’s embarrassing that’s where we are. I don’t blame the kids, but people trying to take advantage of the system. It’s embarrassing, but we’ve been there for a while.”
He added, “No pun intended but we’re just going to stay in our lane.”
The much-anticipated game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
