Keenan Allen’s Future with the Colts Unaffected Despite DUI Arrest

Keenan Allen will remain with the Indianapolis Colts despite a DUI arrest on Sunday. General manager Chris Ballard addressed the situation on Tuesday, affirming Allen’s continued presence on the team.

Ballard expressed understanding, saying, “Good people make mistakes.” He described Allen as a “tremendous human being” deserving of grace as he navigates the legal process.

Allen joined the Colts late in training camp, providing insurance while Alec Pierce recovers from injuries. With a one-year contract signed on Aug. 19, Allen reunites with head coach Shane Steichen, who previously coached him in Los Angeles. Philip Rivers, a former Colts quarterback, also endorsed Allen. Rivers had played with Allen during his time with the Chargers.

Allen’s history of a 14-year career with no issues bolstered Ballard’s defense of keeping him on the roster. Ballard noted the positive rapport Allen has with Rivers and Steichen, adding, “After you meet his mom and dad, who are amazing people, we feel good about who he is.”

Allen appeared in one preseason game for the Colts before his arrest early Sunday in Indianapolis. Police found his vehicle parked in a no-parking zone, noticing signs of intoxication. Allen faces preliminary charges for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering another person, with a reported blood-alcohol level of at least 0.08%.

After being booked, Allen was released later that afternoon. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will decide on charges, and the NFL is monitoring the case. Allen may face discipline under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, with his first court date scheduled for Sept. 16, following the Colts’ opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
