IC Catholic Football Star Grant Bowen’s Path to Success

Grant Bowen, a standout junior at IC Catholic, is making a name for himself both on and off the field. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 205 pounds, Bowen dominates as a tight end and outside linebacker. His impressive talents have earned him 38 Division I offers, including from top-ranking teams such as Indiana, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama, among others.

Bowen appreciates the opportunity to engage with various coaches and gain insights into college football. Yet, he holds his father’s perspective in high regard. Matt Bowen, his father, was a renowned player at Glenbard West and later excelled at Iowa before an NFL career. Now an assistant at IC Catholic, Matt Bowen has been a guiding force for his son.

“Having my dad around is truly beneficial,” Grant Bowen shared. “He’s been instrumental in my journey, with football being my main passion since early on.” Beyond football, Grant Bowen has diversified his athletic skills by playing basketball and participating in baseball, track, and soccer in his earlier years. This diverse experience has enhanced his movement skills and athleticism.

“His multiple-sport background has helped him tremendously,” Matt Bowen observed, noting his son’s explosive nature on any field, be it football or basketball.

IC Catholic’s coaches also significantly contribute to Bowen’s development. He often discusses practice experiences with his father, creating a special bond and understanding of the game. “Coaching Grant is incredibly rewarding,” stated Matt Bowen. “I’ve been involved since his youth football days, but working with him here, amid a tradition of excellence, is distinctive.”

IC Catholic benefits greatly from this relationship. “Coach Bowen is well-loved, and Grant connects well with the team,” said senior quarterback Nate Lang, emphasizing their effective communication on the field.

Grant Bowen, a key player on both sides, shines for the Knights, who ranked sixth in a recent Tribune poll. Last season, as a sophomore starter, he amassed 731 yards and 11 touchdowns on 34 catches, along with 55 tackles. This season, he continues his standout performance with 24 catches, 486 yards, and seven touchdowns, alongside notable defensive stats.

Nate Lang appreciates Bowen’s impact. “He’s made my life easier,” Lang admitted. “His size, ability, and our trust built over two years are invaluable.” Head coach Bill Krefft, praised Bowen’s exceptional skill set, noting his comprehensive understanding of the game, a trait typical of a coach’s offspring.

No IC Catholic player matches Bowen’s recruitment level, a testament to his capability and work ethic. His recruitment process is well underway, with plans to narrow choices post-season and commit by next summer.

The recruiting demands can be demanding, yet Grant Bowen feels fortunate for his father’s guidance. “He’s been a fantastic resource, guiding me through each step,” Grant noted. He takes comfort in shared discussions about NFL and IC football strategies at home.

Matt Bowen acknowledges shifts in recruiting timelines. Offers now arrive much earlier than in his days, increasing the pressure as early as sophomore year. Despite this, Matt commends Grant’s maturity and handling of the process.

Grant Bowen’s potential remains vast. “He has much growth ahead, both physically and mentally,” Matt Bowen added, expecting his son’s frame to develop further by college. Grant exhibits all the necessary qualities to thrive as an impact player in various roles.

Ultimately, Grant Bowen aspires to follow his father’s professional footsteps. “The NFL is my ultimate goal,” he said, while currently focused on helping the Knights secure another state championship.

Coach Krefft praises Bowen’s contributions, remarking on his readiness since sophomore year and anticipating future successes. “Coaching Grant has been entirely rewarding,” Matt Bowen reflected, cherishing the remaining time before his son graduates.
