The MRI results for Jayden Daniels’ dislocated left elbow are under review by medical specialists. This assessment will guide the Washington Commanders in deciding the next steps for their quarterback. Daniels will not play in Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, and Marcus Mariota will take the starting position.
The Seahawks are hopeful that their starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, will return for the game. However, his participation will depend on his performance in practice.
Commanders coach Dan Quinn stated, “He had imaging done today. He’ll see specialists early this week, Tuesday and Wednesday, and then we’ll go through the process.” Quinn wisely refrains from providing a specific recovery timeline, as expert recommendations could vary, including the possibility of surgery.
If surgery is needed, it might end Daniels’ season. Conversely, a similar rehabilitation program to the one previously undertaken could be another option. This strategy kept him out of only three games last season.
Injury history shows Daniels missed games last year due to his elbow issue. He chose rehabilitation over surgery then, but a Week 14 aggravation concluded his season early.
The critical question is whether the Commanders and Daniels will repeat previous treatment methods or try something different for a better outcome. Surgery is suggested when alignment or stability cannot be maintained nonsurgically, or if ligaments and tendons are severely damaged.
The Commanders might play multiple games without Daniels, relying on Mariota and possibly another player. Daniels’ absence challenges an offense designed around his skills. The team, currently 0–2, faces pressure to realign their season objectives while he recovers.
