Jayden Daniels, the Washington Commanders star quarterback, finds himself in a unique situation even before the regular season kicks off. The New York Mets have joined the online frenzy mocking Daniels for sending a cease-and-desist letter to his alma mater, LSU, concerning the use of his name, image, and likeness. This move comes in response to the Mets’ recent game against the Washington Nationals, who, like the Commanders, are based in the DMV area.
Following their 4-1 victory, the Mets took a jab at Daniels in a post on X, writing, “Stopped at 4 out of respect for Jayden Daniels.” This comment gained significant attention as it referenced the ongoing dispute between Daniels and LSU.
Daniels, who clinched the Heisman Trophy with LSU in 2023, is reportedly unhappy with LSU’s head coach Lane Kiffin allowing DJ Pickett to wear his No. 5 jersey. Daniels deemed this act “disrespectful.” In a statement on social media, Daniels expressed his feelings, stating, “I have been locked in on training camp and that’s been my number one focus. I have a lot of gratitude for my time at LSU and I’m proud of what my teammates and I accomplished there. Obviously, there are issues to be worked out between my team and LSU and my hope is that it will get done privately.”

Daniels emphasized his dedication to the Commanders, saying, “My sole personal focus is on Commanders’ football. I realize the business of football is unique and I trust this can all be resolved.”
Despite Daniels’ attempts to calm the situation, social media continues to target him with intensity. StubHub, a well-known ticketing platform, sarcastically announced on X that it would not offer tickets in groups of five “out of respect for Daniels.”
The former LSU star is hopeful that by the time the regular season starts, his focus will only be on handling blitzes on the field rather than online.
