James Talarico’s Stance on Gender Surgery and Transgender Athletes

In an exclusive interview with Fox News, Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico expressed support for banning gender surgery for minors and opposed transgender-identifying men competing in women’s sports. He also revised some of his previous statements regarding gender and theology.

The Texas Senate race, which recent polling indicates as closely contested, is nearing its final months. Talarico faces Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican linked to various controversies. The political outcome in Texas holds significant repercussions for both parties vying for Senate control.

During a food drive campaign event in Dallas, Talarico affirmed his stance on a national ban for gender surgery for minors. He stated, “Absolutely,” and emphasized his consistent opposition to a Texas bill that he described as overly broad. Talarico highlighted his efforts in supporting amendments to narrow the bill’s focus, though these amendments were unsuccessful.

In his previous role as a Texas House representative, Talarico opposed SB 14, which restricted certain gender surgeries, puberty blockers, and hormone treatments for minors. He supported numerous amendments proposed by Democrats, all of which failed.

Addressing the issue of transgender athletes in women’s sports, Talarico stressed the importance of safety and fairness. “I oppose trans athletes playing in girls’ sports if it endangers safety or fairness,” he remarked, citing his concerns as a former public school teacher.

Talarico acknowledged the provocativeness of his past statements, including describing God as “non-binary,” attributing this to theological perspectives that transcend human categories. Regarding his comment about multiple genders, he clarified his belief in two sexes, with exceptions for genetic abnormalities.

Further controversies led Talarico to critique the Supreme Court, suggesting corruption and advocating for an overhaul, which includes codes of conduct, term limits, and potentially expanding the number of justices.

Throughout his remaining campaign, Talarico plans to focus on affordability issues, including groceries, gas, utilities, and healthcare. Although he previously voted against a measure to permanently ban a state income tax, he now advocates for maintaining the absence of the state income tax in Texas.

Talarico accused Paxton of corruption, stating that Paxton might use selectively edited comments to distract from his controversies.
