Jacy Maranhao’s Remarkable Recovery After Stadium Mishap

1 hour ago 0

Jacy Maranhao, the Brazilian soccer player known for his dedication on the field, provided a health update following a terrifying incident during a match. After scoring for his team, Coritiba, at Estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira, Maranhao attempted to celebrate with his wife in the crowd. He leaped over a barrier and unexpectedly fell through an open trapdoor, injuring his ankle.

Reflecting on the incident, Maranhao expressed that he got “carried away” in the moment. The 29-year-old defender, who serves as Coritiba’s captain, was not only celebrating his first goal at the stadium but also sharing joy with his pregnant wife. Unfortunately, the oversight of an open moat led to the fall.

To compound the incident, Maranhao’s goal was later nullified due to an offside ruling by VAR. Despite his injury, Maranhao displayed resilience by continuing to play for the rest of the half. He was eventually substituted before the match ended, which Coritiba won 2-1.

Maranhao, reflecting on the experience, described it as feeling like “falling from a building.” Though his ankle was sore, he remained optimistic about his recovery. His dedication and enthusiasm for the game shone through as he remarked, “Center-backs hardly ever score goals. So, when you do score…I just got carried away.”

On social media, Maranhao reassured fans that he was on the mend. Initially, the incident was more frightening than harmful, and his condition has improved with time.

Formerly with Operário, Maranhao is in his second season with Coritiba, playing in Brazil’s Série A. The team advanced from Série B last season. His commitment to the sport and team remains unwavering, with one goal in 19 matches this season.
