Israel Captures Hamas Security Chief in Gaza Raid

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have successfully captured Mu’in al-Arabid, the head of Hamas’ General Security Apparatus, during an incursion into Gaza, according to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. This operation involved airstrikes to facilitate the IDF’s withdrawal, with no casualties reported on the Israeli side.

Defense Minister Katz emphasized the proactive approach of Israeli forces, stating, “Our policy is to take action against threats promptly. We actively pursue Hamas terrorists, disrupt their operations, and dismantle their infrastructure.” He highlighted the establishment of a robust security zone in Gaza that aims to protect both Israeli residents and IDF soldiers.

“Nearly 70% of the Gaza Strip has been destroyed,” Katz remarked, indicating the extensive impact of recent military activities. He asserted control over the region by the IDF, with conditions including no remaining residents, tunnels, or homes. Katz vowed that the IDF would maintain presence until the complete disarmament of Hamas and the destruction of all terrorist tunnels. He warned of a firm response to any attempts to breach the security zone by aerial means.

This military action follows requests from the Trump administration in August for Hamas to disarm and relinquish control of Gaza. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, recently visited Israel, and expressed potential U.S. support for further IDF actions if Hamas fails to comply.

Kushner noted the possibility of increased international backing for Israel by stating, “If they don’t follow through now, it will reveal their lack of commitment to peace.” He underlined the importance of adherence to peace agreements.

During Kushner’s rare direct meeting with Hamas in Egypt, assurances were reportedly given by the group. Despite their positive statements, Kushner acknowledged the challenge of trusting a group with a history of violence, yet expressed openness to evaluating their actions.

The U.S.-led “Board of Peace” initiative focuses on a phased ceasefire, disarming Gaza, Israeli troop withdrawal, governance by Palestinian technocrats, and international efforts for reconstruction.
