The UnPopulist publication, focused on defending liberal democracy, has reported a notable shift among voters who supported Kamala Harris for president. According to the latest data from the Institute for the Study of Modern Authoritarianism (ISMA), these voters have grown increasingly cynical about American elites since 2024.
The recent survey highlights that 69% of Harris supporters now strongly believe that at least one of six identified American elites has harmed individuals like them in pursuit of their own selfish interests. This marks a 10-point increase from the August 2024 survey conducted before the presidential election, where 59% of Harris supporters held this view.
The ISMA’s survey tracks several populist attitudes, but this significant rise in cynicism was the only marked change among Harris voters. These findings suggest a growing critical perspective towards those perceived as elites in the political and economic landscape.
