Is Lane Kiffin Overhyped?

50 minutes ago 0

Dan Dakich recently expressed skepticism about Lane Kiffin’s coaching achievements. Despite Kiffin’s actions and movements, Dakich likened him to the ‘John Gotti of coaching,’ questioning his track record of victories.

LSU Dominates McNeese

In Week 5, LSU faced McNeese in their final out-of-conference game. The game outcome seemed secure from the start, with LSU leading 35-0 at halftime. The officials approached Kiffin to consider running the clock in the second half due to the lopsided score.

Kiffin declined this option. He stated, ‘Shortening a game isn’t part of the standard within his program.’ As LSU secured a 63-14 victory, Kiffin explained the decision, emphasizing the importance of setting a standard in gameplay.

“You play the game, we decide when the game’s over by the way that we play,” Kiffin noted.

This approach allowed LSU to utilize many players from the depth chart, offering experience to athletes beyond the first team. Backup quarterbacks Landen Clark and Husan Longstreet threw 25 passes combined, while eight players had at least one rushing attempt.

Concerns Over Injuries

Despite the opportunity to rest players and potentially prevent injuries, Kiffin prioritized maintaining standard game practices. This decision comes as his team has faced several injuries lately.

In the third quarter, both teams scored 14 points. LSU finished strong, shutting out McNeese 14-0 in the final quarter.

Upcoming Game Against Kentucky

LSU will travel to Lexington, Kentucky, for Week 6. Their opponent, Kentucky, comes off an impressive comeback win against South Carolina. The upcoming match will test LSU’s resilience and adaptability in a competitive environment.
