The NBA preseason has kicked off, with the Philadelphia 76ers triumphing over the defending champions, the New York Knicks, with a score of 120-97. Despite some stars being absent from the court, the 76ers showcased their talent.
Prior to the matchup, Knicks coach Mike Brown stated that nearly all his players would participate, and he delivered on that promise. Key players OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson each managed to score 12 points during their brief time playing. Other well-known Knicks players, Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges contributed a total of 10 points.
In the locker room after the game, Jalen Brunson openly expressed his views on the team’s performance. He focused on the challenges they face this season, particularly with revamped teams like Philadelphia. “It’s a good first step. Not a great first step, but as long as we’re making strides in the right direction, it’s something to be happy about. Still a lot for us to learn and be better at early,” Brunson remarked.
Though it was only a preseason game, the Knicks are aware that the regular season requires a different approach. Starters will have increased playing time and a greater influence on the outcomes. Their first regular-season game will be an opportunity to spoil the debut of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown in the 76ers lineup. Additionally, the Knicks will celebrate their 2026 NBA championship at Madison Square Garden.
In the Monday night contest, Philadelphia’s Jaylen Brown was in action, playing for 17 minutes and scoring 22 points by hitting 8 of 13 shots. VJ Edgecombe, another key player in his sophomore season in the NBA, contributed 12 points, seven assists, and four rebounds over 20 minutes.
The teams are set for a regular-season clash in New York on Tuesday, Oct. 20, where the stakes are higher as each team aims for their first victory of the regular season.
