The husband of Representative Ilhan Omar, Tim Mynett, was seen entering their Washington, D.C., home shortly after it was raided by agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). The raid occurred amid a federal investigation into Rep. Omar’s immigration status and financial disclosures.
Tim Mynett, a political consultant, was observed walking a dog near the home on Tuesday. This same day, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced an investigation into Omar’s financial disclosures, focusing on the couple’s declared assets. Two sources close to HSI’s investigation stated that the raid is part of a probe into alleged fraud related to Omar’s immigration paperwork, initially completed by her late father.
Federal agents raided the home early Monday morning. The operation was confirmed by a source familiar with the matter to Fox News Digital. Mynett is entangled in a controversy concerning significant changes in the reported financial worth in Omar’s disclosure filings.
Pirro initiated an investigation into these financial disclosures following the Office of Congressional Conduct’s recent decision to discontinue its inquiry into Omar. This financial controversy emerged when the 2024 financial report indicated that Omar and Mynett had between $6 million and $30 million in assets, amidst a broader fraud scandal involving the Somali community in Minnesota.
The documents showed a notable change in Mynett’s reported assets, particularly in ownership stakes in a winery and a venture capital advisory firm, previously valued at millions but now listed as having no value. Omar’s 2024 financial disclosure records detailed Mynett’s shares; his winery investment was valued between $1 million and $5 million, while his venture firm share was between $5 million and $25 million. These are now reported as zero value.
According to Omar’s office, the initial filings incorrectly reflected the total equity of Mynett’s businesses rather than his ownership share. Furthermore, liabilities were not initially accounted for in the asset listings. Mynett, who played a role in Omar’s 2020 re-election campaign, married Omar in 2020, marking her third marriage.
Omar has faced additional controversy over her first marriage, with accusations alleging that it was an immigration-related scheme involving her brother. These claims have faced obstacles due to statute of limitations issues, as noted by a former federal prosecutor.
A spokesperson from the Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed the raid was conducted under a judicially authorized search warrant as part of an ongoing investigation. Authorities continue to scrutinize the details of Omar’s finances and immigration status.
