Goebel Farms in Evansville, Indiana, became the center of a heated debate after unveiling a corn maze tribute to the late Charlie Kirk. The farm faced significant criticism from the community. In response, the farm issued a statement explaining its decision to honor Kirk for his dedication to free speech.
Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was tragically shot during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. The farm’s tribute, however, was met with backlash. Dozens of negative reviews appeared on its Google business page, leading the farm to remove its listing. Some online threads even celebrated the backlash.
“Our intention was not to suggest that everyone should share Charlie’s beliefs,” said Goebel Farms in a statement. “We recognize that he was a polarizing figure, but we wanted to encourage civil discourse, not division.”
Kirk was killed while speaking at his “American Comeback Tour,” promoting political discussion. Goebel Farms emphasized that violence should never replace dialogue. They aim to inspire conversations, even amidst serious disagreements, to prevent seeing each other as enemies.
The farm defended its stance as a family business, not a political entity. “Our hope is for Americans to speak openly, challenge ideas without hatred, and treat each other with respect,” the farm stated.
Tyler Robinson, 23, is accused of assassinating Kirk, a father of two. He faces several charges, including aggravated murder, after a Utah judge determined there was enough evidence for trial.
