Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic Senate candidate from Michigan, expressed interest in appearing on Bill Maher’s show, despite the comedian’s previous comments on Islam. El-Sayed, during an interview, remarked on Maher’s “terrible” beliefs but said he would engage to reach Maher’s audience.
He stated, “You know how many terrible things Bill Maher has said about people like me? Terrible, awful things.” Despite this, El-Sayed indicated he would appear on Maher’s show to challenge his views and demonstrate resilience. He wished to provide an image of Maher being challenged by someone of Islamic faith.
Maher responded publicly, inviting El-Sayed onto “Real Time.” He clarified that his discussions on religion are about ideas, not individuals or races, emphasizing religion as opinion. Maher extended an invitation, hoping for a discussion on varied views, such as women’s treatment.
El-Sayed’s campaign and Maher’s representative were contacted for comment. Meanwhile, El-Sayed has continued to employ strong rhetoric against his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers. Recently, El-Sayed challenged Rogers to a tackle football game, citing Rogers’ reluctance to debate him. Rogers dismissed the challenge as “unserious,” focusing instead on pressing electoral issues.
