Honda is recalling more than 800,000 vehicles in the United States to address a potential failure in rear suspension components. This defect could lead to loss of vehicle control, thereby raising the likelihood of crashes or injuries.
According to American Honda Motor Co., the recall involves specific Honda Pilot models from 2016-2022, Ridgeline models from 2017-2023, Passport models from 2019-2023, and Acura MDX models from 2014-2020. In total, 880,514 vehicles are affected, primarily those sold in several states, including Connecticut, Delaware, and others listed in the notice.
The issue arises from the corrosion of the rear subframe at the suspension mounting points. This can lead to a failure in the rear suspension. Honda estimates that only 1% of the recalled vehicles are likely to have this defect.
To date, there have been no warranty claims or injury reports connected to this problem. Honda and Acura dealerships will inspect the rear subframe of affected vehicles. If necessary, they will install a reinforcement kit or repair and replace rear subframe components without any cost to the owners.
Owners will receive notification letters starting July 7. Information on Vehicle Identification Numbers related to this recall will be available on NHTSA.gov from June 10. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign number is 26V367000, while Honda’s recall numbers are AOU and AOT.
