The Raiders franchise originated on January 30, 1960, in Oakland, California. As a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), the team transitioned to the National Football League (NFL) during the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.
In 1982, the Raiders left Oakland, adopting the name Los Angeles Raiders, and stayed there until 1994. Following this, prior to the 1995 season, they returned to Oakland, remaining until 2020. The NFL authorized the Raiders’ request to relocate to Las Vegas in 2017, marking the official move to Las Vegas in 2020.
Throughout their history, the Raiders have clinched three Super Bowl titles. Their first victory occurred in 1976, at Super Bowl XI, with the celebrated head coach John Madden. His leadership was not present for their subsequent triumphs in 1980 at Super Bowl XV, and in 1983 at Super Bowl XVIII.
Currently, the Raiders are part of the AFC West division, competing alongside the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Chargers.
