Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner publicly denied recent allegations against him in his first national media interview since the emergence of the scandal. The New York Times report included allegations from Platner’s ex-girlfriends describing instances of rape fantasies, excessive drinking, and aggressive behavior.
A specific accusation involved Platner allegedly pulling an ex-girlfriend from a taxi and forcing her into a room during an altercation. Platner strongly denied these claims in an appearance on MS NOW’s “All In with Chris Hayes.” He stated the allegations were “not true” and rejected any assertions of physical abuse or inappropriate behavior related to his tattoos, describing them as “politically motivated.”
Platner acknowledged struggling with alcohol and personal issues following combat service, attributing this to a dark period in his life. He accepted responsibility for some past actions but maintained that the severe allegations were unfounded.
In response to questions from Hayes about the specific incidents, Platner categorically denied any physical altercations, labeling the accuser’s claims as false. His campaign criticized witness Lyndsey Fifield as a politically motivated GOP operative.
Platner’s campaign has faced multiple controversies. Earlier reports surfaced about a controversial tattoo and offensive Reddit comments he made, along with reports of explicit communications with multiple women. His wife, Amy Gertner, acknowledged the text messages, asserting campaign awareness of them as potential liabilities. Gertner later publicly supported her husband and his run for Senate.
