Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting in East Los Angeles, where four individuals were injured by gunfire on Sunday night. The incident followed the Mexico-England World Cup soccer game.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, a dispute at the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Leonard Avenue escalated when a person pulled out a firearm and fired it at 9:35 p.m. Two men, who were the intended targets, were injured and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The other victims included a woman and a minor male. They left the area and later contacted deputies at a different location. They were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Details about the shooter were not available as of Monday morning. The incident took place amidst celebrations following Mexico’s World Cup exit after a 3-2 loss to England.
