Ford Recalls 420,000 Vehicles Due to Seat Belt and Suspension Issues

3 weeks ago 0

Ford is recalling almost 420,000 vehicles due to a seat belt problem that could cause injury if a crash occurs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that this recall affects certain Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models from 2018 through 2022.

The issue involves seat belts that may lock unexpectedly, preventing them from retracting or extending. According to the NHTSA, seat belts failing to retract or extend can result in injury during a crash. Rapid retraction of the seat belt can also cause injury in some instances.

This recall replaces and broadens two previous NHTSA recalls. Ford acknowledges two warranty claims and two field reports related to the current recall, as well as one reported injury.

Vehicle owners will receive notification by mail about the recall. They can visit a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have both front seat belt retractors checked and replaced if needed, free of charge.

Ford has also issued a do-not-drive warning for certain Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles over suspension system issues. The NHTSA states that the front lower control arm ball joints in these vehicles may have been improperly installed or repaired, risking disconnection from the front wheel knuckle. If a control arm detaches, it could lead to loss of vehicle control, increasing crash risk.

The recall affects 4,600 Bronco Sport models from 2021 through 2026 and Maverick models from 2022 through 2026. Dealers will inspect and repair the front lower control arm ball joints as needed, free of charge.

Owners seeking more information on these recalls can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
