A routine traffic stop in Eustis, Florida, escalated into a volatile incident over the weekend. Authorities report suspect Shakoi Donovan, 28, sped away with an officer inside his car and dragged another officer. Both officers were involved in an attempt to detain Donovan during a suspected DUI stop.
Police state that the event occurred during the early hours of Saturday morning. Donovan allegedly failed to comply with officers’ requests to exit his vehicle after being pulled over for erratic driving. The officers observed a silver Infiniti weaving on a local street.
It all began when officers attempted to remove Donovan from his car upon his refusals to exit.
Body camera footage from the officers captures Donovan’s sudden acceleration with one officer trapped inside the vehicle. The police report mentions that an officer was pinned against the steering wheel during Donovan’s attempt to escape the stop.
Another officer, who clung to the car, was dragged about 10 to 15 feet before rolling across the street. This officer sustained injuries and received medical treatment. The chaotic scene was documented by bodycam and dashcam videos.
Shakoi Donovan currently faces multiple charges, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery on an officer, and resisting arrest with violence. He remains in jail awaiting a court appearance scheduled for August 24.
Donovan’s criminal history involves previous arrests for aggravated assault, burglary, and battery, reflecting a pattern of legal issues in Lake County, Florida.
