Florida Mom Discovers Surprise Footage of Toddler’s Mischief

A Florida mother of two found herself bewildered when her three-week-old daughter was discovered on the couch. It wasn’t until Jessica Fortner reviewed her security camera footage that she understood the unexpected turn of events.

Staying with a friend at the time, Fortner’s routine morning took a surprising twist. “My partner was out of town, and I was managing the kids alone, which was normal for us,” Fortner shared with Newsweek.

Discovery of Daughter on the Couch

Everleigh, her daughter, was resting in her bassinet with a zip-up mesh cover. Meanwhile, her son Greyson, aged two, was engaged elsewhere. “I heard Everleigh fuss a bit, but it stopped soon enough,” Fortner recalled. Returning to the living room, Fortner unexpectedly found Everleigh on the couch. The cause of this mystery soon became clear.

Greyson had somehow managed to unzip the bassinet and move his sister. The means by which he transported her, however, remained uncertain.

Security Camera Insight

Thankfully, there was a security camera set up in the living room’s corner. Fortner reviewed the footage to pinpoint what had transpired.

Many parents today are opting for in-home security systems to keep closer tabs on their children. According to a OnePoll survey conducted for tech company Asurion, 59% of 2,000 U.S. parents have Wi-Fi-enabled cameras, while 76% use smart technology like cameras and video doorbells for child safety.

The footage provided valuable context for Fortner, but it was difficult to watch.

The video showed Greyson carrying Everleigh across the room. “It was nerve-wracking watching him carry her, hoping he wouldn’t drop her,” Fortner said. She felt pride in his care, mixed with concern for his technique, as he reached the couch without mishap.

Reflections on the Video

Though Greyson’s speech was limited, he explained his actions: “I help Sissy.” As time passed, Fortner’s perspective shifted.

The video transitioned from alarming to endearing, and Fortner began sharing it with loved ones. “It’s something that, over time, wasn’t so frightening and became a charming family memory,” she noted.

The incident underscores children’s unpredictable nature. “Kids can be mischievous, and no matter how attentive a parent is, surprises happen,” Fortner reflected.
