On Wednesday, roads transformed into rivers in the towns surrounding San Antonio as emergency officials rushed to assist people stranded due to heavy rains. Rescue operations intensified as flash floods struck the region.
A tornado was observed in San Antonio, while Uvalde and Harris counties faced flooding due to the substantial rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Another day of torrential rain across Texas led to urgent flash flood alerts, dangerous river levels, and rapid evacuations. Emergency responders worked tirelessly to rescue individuals from rising waters.
In Uvalde, located within Uvalde County, Commissioner Roy Coachman reported that as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, 25 rescues had already occurred in the county with river levels continually increasing. First responders are actively engaged in rescue operations in northern Uvalde County, he stated during a news conference.
The Uvalde Police Department confirmed that a dam in the northern part of the county remained intact. However, a river gauge upstream of the Leona River, just above Uvalde, recorded a 20-foot wall of water, with an anticipated rise of another 15 feet. If you reside along the Leona River, seek higher ground, the police urged.
In Boerne, located north of San Antonio, the National Weather Service declared a flood emergency on Wednesday. The city, which experienced up to 12 inches of rainfall with more expected, saw its Main Street submerged. High water rescue operations were underway in Boerne, home to 12,314 residents.
