Fire Destroys Adolf Hitler’s ‘Eagle’s Nest’ Retreat, Suspect Detained

14 minutes ago 0

A fire engulfed Adolf Hitler’s ‘Eagle’s Nest’ mountain retreat, leaving the main building severely damaged. Authorities describe the structure as ‘unlikely to be salvageable,’ and a suspect is currently in detention.

Police in Bavaria, southern Germany, reported that around 200 emergency responders were dispatched to the Kehlsteinhaus site at approximately 9:15 p.m. local time on Friday (3:15 p.m. ET). Flames were visible from a distance as fire crews headed toward the retreat. Access required breathing equipment due to the site’s remoteness. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Officials confirmed that the fire continued to burn into Saturday morning. The retreat’s difficult-to-reach location above Berchtesgaden hindered efforts to completely extinguish the fire. A police spokesperson told the Bild newspaper that the property suffered extensive damage, declaring it ‘unlikely to be salvageable.’

Authorities are probing if arson sparked the blaze, and a motorcyclist near the scene was stopped, as reported by the newspaper. A ‘suspicious person’ has been apprehended, though no details about the suspect’s identity or possible motives have been disclosed. Prosecutors in Traunstein have taken over the investigation.

This is a breaking story; further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
